The coastline here at Hualalai Resort contains a typical basalt tidepool system. The tidepools are surrounded by lava (basalt) and are constantly supplied with new ocean water. These intertidal pools provide an amazing plethora of marine organisms to look at. The tidepools attract marine invertebrates and juvenile reef fish, with many of these organisms being endemic marine species. Endemic is defined as; organisms found only here in Hawaii and nowhere else in the world! The tidepool tours are offered Tuesday and Thursday mornings (dial 325-8520 to check with the Kaupulehu Cultural Center for the exact time and dates).
